MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. MRI uses a big magnet and pulses of sound to obtain pictures of your brain. We can get many different types of pictures. Some are like still photographs that we can use to measure the size of different areas and the connections between areas. Others measure changes in activity when you are seeing pictures, hearing sounds, or playing a game. MRI is completely safe and you wont be able to feel the effects of the magnet or the sounds.

What is MRI?

What Will It Be Like?

When you come for the MRI, you will lie on a bed and a technician will help you put in ear plugs and fit a special coil over your head. Then they will move you into the middle of the MRI tube and begin taking pictures.
When the pictures are being taken you will hear pulsing sounds and sometimes the table will move a little. The sounds are a little different for each type of picture we are taking. Some of the pictures will take six or seven minutes and some will only take a minute or two.
The technician will be in a different room during the MRI but they will be able to see you through a window and talk to you through a special microphone and speaker inside the scanner
