Psychosis is a mental state that involves irrational thinking, hallucinations and other disturbances of normal thought. Episodes of psychosis can happen during mental illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar and unipolar depression. Psychosis is thought to intersect with brain development in important ways. We are trying to understand how psychosis impacts the large scale organization of the brain during adolescence and hopefully find ways to minimize the adverse effects psychosis can have on brain maturation.
